BUTTERCROSS PARK

Public BBQ

Buttercross Park perches atop a hill in Mernda like a well-intentioned relative who's seen better days. The sprawling open space offers children the kind of freedom that makes parents simultaneously grateful and nervous. The playground itself tells a story of modest ambitions: minimal equipment, no slides to speak of, but a rather ingenious rope basket swing that accommodates wheelchairs. The covered areas and drinking tap suggest someone once cared deeply about family gatherings, though the current ant population seems to have claimed squatter's rights.
